Maude Corriveau transfigures disposable and artificial materials through a practice of drawing and painting informed by an interest in the effect of light on matter. In her approach to still life she intervenes digitally to intensify certain optical phenomena such as shadows or refracted light. Her complex yet minimalist compositions metamorphose the pictorial space into an ethereal world that plays with the line between the illusion and the real, the intangible and the material. While considering the place of skill in contemporary art, she actualizes hyperrealism not only by imitating a magnified and simulated reality, but by activating the perceptual experience of her works into spatial exploration.
Maude Corriveau lives and works in Montreal (QC). She holds a master's degree (2020) and a bachelor's degree (2009) in visual and media arts from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). She is the recipient of the Explore and Create Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts (2021) and the prestigious graduate scholarship from the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation (2019). She has exhibited in Canada and the United States, and her work is part of many private and corporate collections, such as Mouvement Desjardins and Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ).
