This artist's book is the first chapter of a publication that will continue to develop in several volumes alongside the project. It is a collection of portraits and interviews conducted by artist Ed Pien with elders in Cuba over an undetermined period of time.
"Since November 2014, a small group of elders and I have begun a conversation about the perception of time. This project is ongoing and I am documenting our encounters over time. The duration of the project will be determined by the end of life, whether it is the participants' or my own, or by the participants' loss of interest.
By sharing time and reflecting on its impact, could we better understand it?
I mainly use video and photography to record our meetings twice a year. The project goes beyond a discussion about time. It is through the experience and passage of time together that the works created in this process take shape, that they continually shape and reshape themselves."
