We used this book project as a pretext to meet and exchange. For almost two years, it has been a place to get to know each other. In order to achieve this, we have previously formulated and selected twenty-four questions to which we answer each other by a text and an image. However, this awareness of the other is not exercised in an intimate, intrusive way, but rather in a metaphorical register; it is a recognition of truthfulness and confidence through the detour of the imaginary.
The lumberjacks of the impossible
Charles Guilbert & Dgino Cantin
Charles Guilbert is an artist with a rhizomatic path. Interested in daily life and human relationships, he seeks to capture reality through written and spoken language. He published Les Inquiets at Herbes rouges in 1993 and Le beau voyage éducatif at Dazibao in 2004. He also works in video, individually or with other artists; for his work in duo with Serge Murphy, he received the Bell Canada Award from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2004. In the visual arts, his work has been shown at Manif d'art 3 (2005), at Joyce Yahouda (Duo, 2005), at B-312 (Carrousels, 2002) and at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (Les Personnes, with Nathalie Caron, 1997).
Dgino Cantin draws, photographs and assembles objects. He is interested in the zones of poetic floating that can arise from different associations. He presented his first solo exhibition in 2004 (Pour la suite des choses), for which he received the Videre Relève award at the Prix d'excellence des arts et de la culture de la ville de Québec. In 2006, he participated in the Inclassables, a six-month residency in France. He presented a solo exhibition (Hirondelle à main et autres petits objets) and participated in Itinéraire, a contemporary art biennale. In Quebec, his installations have been presented in solo and group exhibitions, including Manif d'art 3 (2005). Recently, his work was shown at VU in Quebec City (Les Manipulations, 2009).
