In this creative book, we discover images, writings and sounds (on CD). Artists from Quebec, France and Colombia have immersed themselves in two residencies: one in the wilderness of Quebec, the other in an urban setting in the center of the megalopolis Bogota, Colombia. Each time, these 20 artists have brought to light different ways of making and playing with textual writing. Two geographies, the same challenge of research and creation: first, to put oneself in a listening situation in order to write by taking into account the sounds and our actions in an environment. In a second step, extend or transpose this immersion to create a performance in situ or in a closed place.
This research and creation work was organized by the Canada Research Chair in Sound Dramaturgy in Theatre, directed by Jean-Paul Quéinnec, creative researcher at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. The objective of this chair is to renew the place of sound in stage writing in general. To do this, Jean-Paul Quéinnec creates teams, spaces, and themes that make the theatrical stage porous to the arrangements and contact of other media. In this sense, this book represents a will of decompartmentalization of the practices (notably the methods) through their delocalization. The projects are impregnated with these changes in sound territories as much for the appearance of new sounds on stage as for the way they are conceived and received. Since 2009, the Chair has produced a dozen creations, organized colloquia and published various articles. These works are disseminated in Saguenay, but also on a national and international level.
