Through a perceptual play between the microscopic and the astronomic, Yonkers-Vidal's work takes root in the real all the while triggering the impression of something imaginary, cosmic and infinite. The starting point of his practice consists of placing drops of transparent or translucent chemical products on a glass sheet and filming the reaction with a macro lens. The products he uses are either reagent bases, solvents or binders. These same drops of products can also be placed between two glass sheets and digitized at high resolution once they are dry. Though the final aesthetic of the work is based on the randomness of the reaction, on the natural work of the products, Yonkers Vidal can control each step of the process to obtain consistent results and gather empirical knowledge about his practice.
The artist's scientific work transports us into a world of experimentation that goes beyond the limits of the computer generated image and which leads us back into a world of imperfection and enchantment.
