j.p.mot aka Jean-Pierre Mot is a first generation Khmer-Canadian born in Montreal. He is a nomadic, conceptual and experimental artist who produce in-situ and site-responsive ephemeral works. He obtained a BFA from the University of Quebec in Montreal in Visual and Media Art and graduated with an MFA in Visual Art in New Genre from Columbia University in New York. His work has been shown in Montreal, New York, California, Mexico, Reykjavik, Qatar, Chiang Mai, Beijing and Singapore.

He reclaims found and discarded items of everyday use, obsolete technology, fonts, and branding that combine through subtle and layered multimedia installations and performances. He uses satire, discarded words, and cardboard boxes to activate his work like contemporary incantations that criticize institutions through the non-monumental and the banal while using technology in an oneiric manner to mistranslate informations.

He has been supported by the Quebec art and Letter Council, the Canada Art Council, the New York Foundation for the Art and the Foundation for Contemporary Art; He has been featured by Maake Magazine, ESSE Arts and, the Reykjavik Grapevine among others. His most recent residencies includes the NARS Foundation on Governors Island, OxBow in Saugatuck, Est-Nord-Est in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and the Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer. His recent exhibitions includes Tasmeem Doha in Qatar and the 4Ground midwest land art biennale in Minnesota. His writings has been recently published in the magazine Vie des Arts and in the book “Best! Letters from asians americans in the arts”.
