Sonya Stoeva and Dimo Ivanov are currently finishing their MFA at Concordia University. The IvanovStoeva duo was formed in 2010 after several collaborations in Canada and Europe.
Their practice is at the crossroads between kinetic sculpture and installation. It examines the landscape of the future through its translation into nature-inspired simulacra in which technology and light merge. The duo's creative process is based on experimentation with various reflective materials and technological means. The components that they use are essential to the landscape: the horizon, light and movement are integrated into a whole that recalls a natural state. They create kinetic events based on an illusion to evoke a natural balance.
In their research they explore a futurist aesthetics in which technological advances allow for the creation of a nature made up of mechanical elements. A nature that consists of a visual and conceptual system that validates the construction of new realities.
In an approach that is attuned to ecology, they design multimedia installations as ecosystems. The components of the works are displayed before the viewer thus opening the door for a fragmented narration. The compositions suggest a “new nature” altered by human activities.
Their research has received the support of several granting agencies (Canada Council for the Arts, CALQ, Ville de Montréal, the FRQSC Grant for MA level research, and the Hexagram Network Research and Creation Grant), the duo was the recipient of the FOFA Award for Excellence in Visual Arts and the Dora and Avi Morrow Award for Excellence. IvanovStoeva's works have been presented in galleries and artist-run centres in Chicoutimi, Montréal, Quebec City, Toronto, Paris and Sofia.

Initiated by Centre SAGAMIE, this program favours the implementation of a chain of collaboration between the centers, in order to support and disseminate the artists' projects.
