Born in Montreal, Dominique Sirois principally presents her work in the form of multidisciplinary installations. Her practice is materialized through exhibition set-ups displaying sculptures, ceramics and image prints. Alternating between an artisanal and conceptual production, Sirois mobilizes narrative spaces with her installations via economic, archaeological, mythological, technological and mineralogical references.
She formulates her artistic thinking in relation to the materials with which she works. In her latest projects, she has notably reflected on the double role of minerals that are used both in industry and for oxide ceramics in the installations Alliance #14, (Fondation Phi) and Kobold pour cobalt (Galerie de L'UQAM). The representation of the female body in sculpture is also something the artist is interested in and that she works in relation to the Greek myth of Danaë. This narrative constitutes a motor for multidimensional reflections on energy (economic, sexual and solar) generating a range of productions. An initial creative phase led to works presented at Laroche-Joncas in 2021, and a follow-up exhibition, curated by Jean-Michel Quirion, is planned at DRAC in Drummondville in 2022.
Sirois' projects have been presented in several artist-run centres in Canada, among which Clark, AXENÉO7 and Latitude 53. She has also exhibited in private galleries, such as Blouin-Division and Bradley-Ertaskiran. The artist carried out several artist residencies outside of Quebec, notably in Glasgow, Paris, Barcelona and Banff. Her work has been shown as part of group shows or collaborations at Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Commun in Geneva, MOCA in Taipei, Unicorn Center for Arts in Beijing and MAL in Brussels. Her artistic work has received steady support from the CALQ, CCA, as well as from Fonds Québécois de Recherche sur la Société et la Culture for her doctoral studies.
