Caroline Mauxion's photographs are guided by literary works, more specifically by the physical experiences elicited by a reading of them. Her interest is primarily in the voices of women writers such as Virginia Woolf, Violette Leduc or Monique Wittig. She tries to transpose unutterable bodily sensations into her visual practice. The experiences of her lived body, notably those linked to her physical state, subtly blend with her literary inspirations. In working with materials such as glass, plaster, water-soluble paper or soap, she experiments with various processes in order to give substance to an image. Through an installation, casting or video practice, she seeks to physically experience a photographic image, to feel its limits and to approach it not only by way of its iconic surface.

Caroline Mauxion graduated from Gobelins, L'École de L'Image (France) and received a Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM in 2016. In 2015, she won the Sylvie and Simon Blais award for emerging visual artists. She has presented solo exhibitions in Québec (Galerie B312, Galerie Simon Blais, Optica Centre d'Art Contemporain Galerie de l’UQAM, Optica Centre d’art contemporain, Caravansérail, and Les Territoires). In 2018, she completed a residency at the Banff Art Centre with the support of the CALQ studio program, and in 2019 a series of her videos were shown at the salon Jeune Création in France. Her works are part of the Prêt d’œuvres d’art collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the collection of the Ville de Laval.
