Ariane Plante is a Montreal-based artist and visual and media arts curator. A self-taught artist, she holds a university degree in anthropology and has worked in the artistic community since 2005. She has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and Premiere Ovation. Her work has been shown in Quebec, in Canada, France, and on online platforms as well as in digital publications.

By way of sound, the photographic image and various media, she reflects on the conditions of our relationship to nature and the living world. The notions of ecosystem and space, prompted by memory, run through all of her practice. Her recent works have led her to take an interest, among other things, in the phenomena of erosion, transformation and disappearance, notably in a sound ecology perspective. She is starting a work cycle that focuses on the figure of silence in the landscape and on the creation of intermedia dioramas for which she received a research and exploration grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

She has participated in group exhibitions and events such as Truck Stop, put together by CLARK and L’Œil de poisson (2017), the exhibition Extension et pratique des idées, a VU initiative presented at Musée d’art de Baie-St-Paul as part of the Manif d’art 8 and subsequently in Marseille (2017 and 2018), and the Grand Happening d’Avatar (2014). She recently produced a radio sound work commissioned by Avatar for the project Repères (2020), and she will participate in the virtual exhibition Cadrer la nature (2020-2021), presented by the Université de Montréal Exhibition Centre.
